What was measured
Incorporation of [3H]beta-alanine and GABA into carnosine, homocarnosine and related dipeptides by primary glial cultures, with and without aminooxyacetic acid.

What the authors reported

Glial cells synthesised carnosine and related peptides from labelled beta-alanine. Labelled GABA was rapidly degraded with little homocarnosine formed; aminooxyacetic acid blocked GABA degradation and enabled homocarnosine synthesis, showing glia can make both dipeptides.
