- What was measured
- Prevention of malondialdehyde accumulation during iron-ascorbate induced lipid peroxidation of rabbit sarcoplasmic reticulum membranes by carnosine and 16 related natural and synthetic compounds.
What the authors reported
Several cyclic dipeptides (cyclo-histidyl-proline, cyclo-histidyl-phenylalanine and the histidine-free cyclo-tyrosyl-proline) matched carnosine in inhibiting lipid peroxidation. Carnosine differed from the synthetic analogues in also reducing the level of peroxidation products that had already accumulated.
Limits of this study
Membrane preparation in vitro. Abstract only.
