- What was measured
- Protection of tyrosine against nitration, alpha1-antiproteinase against inactivation and human low-density lipoprotein against modification by peroxynitrite, by carnosine, anserine and synthetic sulphonamido pseudodipeptides.
What the authors reported
Carnosine and anserine protected tyrosine, alpha1-antiproteinase and human LDL against peroxynitrite-dependent damage, with carnosine acting at concentrations similar to those found in human tissues. Synthetic pseudodipeptides related to carnosine but resistant to hydrolytic enzymes gave similar protection.
Limits of this study
Chemical and in vitro assays. Abstract only.
