Carnosine inhibits KRAS-mediated HCT116 proliferation by affecting ATP and ROS production
Laboratory studyOther animals
- Design
- Laboratory study
- Dose used in the study
- 50 to 100 mM carnosine in culture
- What was measured
- Proliferation, ATP and ROS concentration, cell cycle distribution, ERK1/2 phosphorylation and p21waf1 protein in HCT116 human colon cancer cells carrying an activating KRAS mutation.
What the authors reported
Carnosine at 50 to 100 mM decreased ATP and ROS, induced G1 cell cycle arrest, reduced ERK1/2 phosphorylation and increased p21waf1. The authors conclude carnosine inhibits HCT116 growth through antioxidant action and effects on glycolysis.
Limits of this study
Single cell line at very high concentrations. Abstract only.
